Grounds Equipment Technician 3 - INTERNAL ONLY
Monday - Friday | 8AM - 5PM | ON-SITE

B&G provides service to over 42 agencies, maintains, operates and preserves the 486-acre state Capitol Campus in Olympia, including more than 28 buildings, 18 public monuments, over 6,000 parking stalls, four state parks and a 260-acre lake. B&G executes these responsibilities through the following service programs: Facilities Operations, Grounds Operations, Leadership and Admin, Maintenance & Repairs, Support Services (Custodial).
About the Opportunity: As a Grounds Equipment Technician 3, you’ll keep the State Capitol Campus running by maintaining and repairing the tools and machinery our grounds team relies on. Working independently, you will diagnose mechanical issues, handle everything from routine tune-ups to major repairs, and keep organized records of all your work. You’ll also take the lead on renting specialized gear and coordinating with outside shops for complex jobs. This is a physically active role that requires a deep knowledge of mechanical tools and the ability to work outdoors in all types of weather to ensure our campus stays beautiful.
Requirements
Some of What You’ll Enjoy Doing Includes:Perform inspections and handle both major and minor mechanical repairs on all grounds equipment and tools.
Conduct routine tune-ups and preventative care to keep the campus fleet in top working condition.
Maintain accurate digital or written records of all equipment service history and repairs.
Manage relationships with outside vendors for specialized repairs and schedule rental equipment as needed.
Work autonomously under the Grounds Manager, performing heavy lifting and outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.
Manage equipment repairs with outside vendors—including welding and specialized service—and arrange for rental backups to keep operations running smoothly.
Perform minor repairs using welding and fabrication, maintain a steady inventory of replacement parts, and use a computer to track all shop and equipment records.
Provide safety and operational training to staff and research new machinery to make expert recommendations for equipment replacements.
Other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED certificate.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Agreement to obtain and maintain a Pesticide Operators License within six (6) months of hire from the Department of Agriculture.
- Agreement to obtain and maintain a Flagger certification within one (1) year of employment.
- Participation in the DES Respiratory Protection Program after hire.
- Able to move and transport fifty (50) lbs.
In addition to the above required qualifications, a candidate must possess one (1) of the following education and/or experience options:
OPTION 1- Three (3) years of experience performing preventative maintenance and repairs, assisting a journey-level mechanic. NOTE: Successful completion of vocational technical training in commercial equipment repair, including welding, may substitute this experience, year-for-year for up to two (2) years.
OPTION 2- One (1) year of experience as a journey-level mechanic, maintaining and repairing equipment.
