Job Description

Summary

This job is for new nursing graduates to provide basic patient care in Michigan's correctional facilities under the supervision of experienced nurses, working inside secure prisons to help inmates with health needs.

It's a temporary role that can turn into a full registered nurse position once you pass your licensing exam within six months.

It's ideal for recent nursing school grads who want hands-on experience in a structured environment and are comfortable working in a prison setting.

Under the guidance and direct oversight of a licensed Registered Nurse, this position performs a range of patient care assignments within the secure perimeter of MDOC facilities.

Upon obtaining licensure within six (6) months of hire and successful performance, the position will be reclassified to the Registered Nurse P11.

Requirements

Education
Possession of a diploma, associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in nursing
accepted for licensure by the Michigan Board of Nursing.

Experience
No specific type or amount is required.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
