DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide engineering and project management assistance in the administration of design and construction of horizontal Capital Improvement Projects such as installation of water and/or wastewater lines, street construction, and drainage improvement projects.

Prepare and/or review design and construction plans, specifications, technical reports, and cost estimates.

Review and process contracts, invoices and pay estimates, supplemental agreements or appropriations, change orders, request for information and request for council action.

Attend and conduct design/construction progress meetings and on-site field observations/inspections. Assist with management of design consultants and construction contractors.

Investigate and respond to inquiries by other City of Houston departments, consultants, agencies, contractors and the public.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. May require walking on rough surfaces during on-site inspections and investigations.

This is a Houston Public Works Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier II Level.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires Bachelor's degree in Engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers with a satisfactory standing;
OR

Requires graduation from an engineering or related science curriculum at a recognized institution of higher education, other than a curriculum approved by the Board and passage of the eight-hour fundamentals of engineering examination prescribed by the Board;
OR

Possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with Degree concentration in Civil Engineering or closely related field.

Valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **
