Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping manage requests for government information under laws like the Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act, including processing requests, tracking them, and preparing responses.

It supports the U.S. Marine Corps in ensuring accurate and timely handling of public inquiries about records.

A good fit would be someone detail-oriented with experience in administrative tasks, research, and following policies, ideally from a government or legal background.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-07 (for GS-09 level) in FOIA/PA program management, including assisting with policy implementation and preparing responses to requests
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 (for GS-07 level) in supporting FOIA/PA policy and procedures
  • Ability to process incoming/outgoing mail, log requests into tracking systems, and maintain paper/electronic file folders
  • Skills in preparing reports, conducting research using internet/resources/liaisons, and ensuring timely/accurate responses
  • Experience managing FOIA fees, payments, and communications with requesters to refine requests and explain records procedures
  • Familiarity with federal service or equivalent private/public sector experience; volunteer work counts toward qualifications

You will serve as a GOVERNMENT INFORMATION SPECIALIST in the ADMIN AND RESOURCES MANAGEMENT DIVISION of HQ US MARINE CORPS This is a RE-ADVERTISEMENT of Announcement Number: ST-12883459-26-NBH.

GS-9: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assisting with implementation of Policy and procedures relating to the management and oversight of Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act (FOIA/PA) programs and prepares responses to FOIA requests, evaluates and resolves FOIA complaints disputes and issues.

GS-7: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

  • You will provide support in the administrative processing of requests for information under the Freedom of Information act (FOIA) and the Privacy Act (PA).
  • You will process all incoming and outgoing mail, logs new requests into the FOIA tracking system and creates request file folders (in both paper and electronic formats).
  • You will prepare weekly/monthly reports related to FOIA case processing actions and generates weekly/monthly backups of the FOIA electronic file system when required.
  • You will process and respond to routine FOIA requests as assigned by the Section Head, Deputy, and/or FOIA Team Leader, and making appropriate entries in the FOIA tracking system.
  • You will conduct extensive research using the Internet, resource manuals, liaisons with other Executive Branch agencies, Presidential Libraries, etc., to ensure actions taken on requests are accurate, timely, and complete.
  • You will manage all aspects of monitoring billed FOIA fees, preparing dunning/delinquency letters, and depositing payments.
  • You will work with requesters to identify responsive documents, refining FOIA requests and answering questions on records management procedures that would assist in understanding what records are maintained by the command.
