Job Description

Summary

Geospatial Analysts at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency work with maps, satellite images, and location data to help the U.S.

military and leaders understand global events and make informed decisions. They analyze patterns in this data to spot trends, solve problems, and create useful reports or tools.

This role suits people with a background in geography, data analysis, or related fields who enjoy using technology to turn raw information into actionable insights for national security.

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, Physical Science, Data Analytics, Cartography, Statistics, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 4 years

Full Job Description

Geospatial Analysts create, analyze, and interpret spatial data to support U.S. military and policymaker interests.

They apply knowledge of geographic information science and technology, statistics, spatial thinking, remote sensing, intelligence issues, and the social and physical sciences to characterize events, discover relationships and trends, and produce geospatial intelligence.

These analyst MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required).

2. Experience with geospatial database management or throughputs (such as server management or Geospatial databases). 3.

Experience using critical thinking skills and/or data analytics to solve problems and draw logical conclusions. 4. Experience using geospatial data in analytic processes, techniques, or tools.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A.

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Geography, Physical Science, Data Analytics, Cartography, Statistics, or a related field -OR- a bachelor's degree in any discipline with a certificate in GIS from an accredited university.

-OR- B.

Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework in GIS, spatial analysis, or any area listed in option A, plus experience working in an Intelligence and/or analytical discipline requiring creating, analyzing, and interpreting spatial data, or related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work.

As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals 4 years. -OR- C.

Experience: A minimum of 4 years of experience working in an Intelligence and/or analytical discipline requiring creating, analyzing, and interpreting spatial data, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Distinguish principal colors and shades/hues of principal colors; Near visual acuity of 20/20 or better with or without corrective lenses Desirables: 1.

Knowledge of analytic processes, tools, or techniques used to manage geospatial data. 2.

Experience with one or more of the following technical skills: computer vision implementation, data mining, data analytics, data visualization, statistical analysis, algorithm development, and/or data science.

3. Experience in a related work role for the federal government, specifically the military, Combat Commands, and/or Intelligence Community. 4.

Experience using written and oral communication skills to develop and present findings to various audiences. 5.

Experience collaborating with individuals and/or teams to track and achieve project tasks. Major Duties:
