Full Job Description
Start your journey in the environmental field with the Department of Environmental Protection as a Geoscience Trainee. Over the course of a year, you will gain hands-on experience, receive guidance from experienced professionals, and immerse yourself in the work of Geoscientists. In this dynamic role, you will assess technical documents and monitor site investigations, cleanup efforts, and environmental incidents, such as spills and discharges impacting Pennsylvania’s water resources. If you are passionate about making a real impact and want to build your career from the ground up, this opportunity is ideal for you.
Requirements
As a Geoscience Trainee, you will embark on a year-long training journey where you will learn the essential duties of a Geoscientist through practical experience and mentorship. Your tasks will include reviewing and analyzing various technical documents such as work plans, SSIP permits, and corrective action reports, all of which are crucial for environmental assessment and remediation. This position will help you build a solid foundation in evaluating storage tank releases, conducting site investigations, and understanding cleanup milestones, while also honing your analytical skills to aid in regulatory decision-making.
In addition, you will play a role in examining oil and gas site spills, remediation efforts, and discharges that could impact surface water, groundwater, or private drinking water supplies. This hands-on experience will enhance your ability to assess environmental impacts, interpret data, and contribute to initiatives aimed at safeguarding public health and natural resources.
