Job Description

Summary

This job is for a maintenance worker who handles building repairs, remodeling, and construction tasks using various tools, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, and lock installations.

It also involves driving a dump truck to clear snow and ice during bad weather and helping with emergencies, which might mean longer shifts.

It's a good fit for someone with hands-on experience in trades who doesn't mind physical work outdoors and is reliable in tough conditions.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform demanding tasks like bending, stooping, climbing, and manipulating heavy objects
  • Availability for extended hours, overtime, nights, weekends, and 12-hour shifts during emergencies or hazardous weather

Full Job Description

Performs skilled and versatile construction and maintenance work involving building, remodeling, and repair projects using a variety of hand and power tools. Performs framing and finish carpentry work in support of building and remodeling projects. Paints and finishes buildings, equipment, and furniture using appropriate tools and equipment. Installs, repairs, and adjusts locks and door latches as required in building and maintaining all buildings. Installs and maintains plumbing fixtures, storm drains, and sewer lines in buildings and on grounds. Operates a tandem dump truck during inclement weather, spreading salt, and plowing roadways of ice and snow. Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended hours and/or 12 hour shifts.

Requirements

Six (6) months of trades experience that is directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
