Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading engineering projects for repairing and upgrading non-nuclear parts of naval ships, such as coordinating teams, creating technical plans, and solving complex problems with ship systems.

It's based at a naval ship repair facility in Japan, where medical and dental care is very limited.

A good fit would be an experienced engineer who has worked on large-scale ship maintenance and enjoys hands-on technical leadership in a military environment.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field (meets Basic Requirements for GS-0801 series)
  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-12 level or equivalent, including overseeing engineering projects for ship overhauls
  • Experience planning and executing non-nuclear overhaul procedures and modernization of ship equipment, systems, and components
  • Ability to guide, coordinate, and report on engineering and planning efforts for ships or projects
  • Skills in prioritizing and issuing technical work documents for hull, mechanical, and electrical ship repairs
  • Proficiency in resolving complex technical problems related to ship systems and ensuring compliance with specifications
  • Willingness to work in Japan with limited access to medical and dental care

Full Job Description

You will serve as a GENERAL ENGINEER in the ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT (CODE 200/S200) of the NAVAL SHIP REPAIR FACILITY. ***ACCESS TO MEDICAL AND DENTAL CARE IN JAPAN IS EXTREMELY LIMITED.

Please see Additional Information section below.*** GS-13: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: overseeing engineering projects, planning and executing non-nuclear overhaul procedures and modernization of complex non-nuclear ship class equipment, systems, and components.

  • You will be responsible for guiding, coordinating, monitoring and reporting the Engineering and Planning effort being carried out for specific ships or projects.
  • You will prioritize the preparation and issue of technical work documents (TWDs), providing waterfront engineering representation for Hull, Mechanical and Electrical availability work items.
  • You will provide assistance in resolving systematic and unusually complex technical problems related to ship systems and components.
  • You will provide system and component installation or modification information to ensure specification compliance.
