Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is looking for the best and brightest to join our Team!

MCCS is a comprehensive program that supports and enhances the quality of life for Marines, their families, and others in the Marine Corps Community.

We offer a team oriented environment comprised of military personnel, civilian employees, contractors and volunteers who keep the organization functioning smoothly and effectively.

Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of seasonal gardening tasks and procedures, for example: how to apply fertilizer evenly to avoid underfeeding or burning plants.

Ability to detect plant diseases and unusual or poor plant growth.

Ability to use a variety of hand and power operated garden tools and equipment such as seeders, spreaders, edgers, hedge trimmers, pruning shears, and sprayers.

May require the operation of a motor vehicle, requiring a driver's license.

Responsibility: Supervisor provides specific instructions as to the nature of work to be performed and ensures compliance. Completes work with little review during progress.

Follows directions from supervisor or manufacturer in measuring and mixing fertilizer or chemical agents.

Physical Effort: Work requires frequent walking, standing, pushing of carts and wheelbarrows, bending and stooping. Ability to climb ladders to prune or trim vegetation.

Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.

Working Conditions: Work is done outside and incumbent is subject to discomfort from long periods in hot sun and sometimes to chilly or rainy weather.

Exposed to dirt, dust, mud and sometimes to common household-type chemical sprays and dusts. Must wear protective clothing.

Chance of minor injuries such as bruises, cuts, scrapes, and occasional possibility of broken bones from falls. Major Duties:

Performs a variety of seasonal gardening tasks to ensure neatness and cleanliness of the landscaping areas around Marine Corps Community Services building and properties aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

Responsible for maintaining and improving outdoor spaces, including lawns and grounds.

Duties typically include trimming, edging, weeding, applying mulch, blowing leaves from sidewalks, fertilizing, and irrigating various plants, as well as operating and maintaining landscaping equipment.

Pruning shrubs and low trees to improve the growth habit or remove damaged branches. Picking up trash, debris, and fallen branches.

May measure and mix specified amounts of fungicides, insecticides, and herbicides following instructions on product labels and in a manner consistent with environmental instructions.

Observes environmental and safety rules and regulations.

May drive a motor vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of up to 10,000 pounds throughout an installation under limited traffic conditions at low speeds to transport supplies and equipment.

Provides exceptional customer service, and upholds high service standards using respect, courtesy, professionalism, and teamwork.

Takes initiative to solve problems quickly but recognizes when to seek assistance to resolve issues. Collaborates in a professional, supportive, and proactive manner.

Adheres to safety regulations and standards.

Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
