Full Job Description

You will serve as a FUEL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM MECHANIC in the Commander Navy Region Northwest (CNRNW) Fuels Department of NAVBASE KITSAP SILVERDALE WA.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: using hand tools, and shop equipment in order to complete maintenance tasks; assisting with surface repainting, corrosion removal, lubrication, and seal replacement of various parts and equipment; and using testing equipment and reading gauges to identify minor issues and repairs.

I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

  • You will inspect and test fuel receiving, storage, and distribution facilities to detect possible explosive and toxic hazards.
  • You will perform operational maintenance and minor repair of fuel distribution systems.
  • You will interpret blueprints or sketches in a group setting to determine specific work requirements for each team member.
  • You will read blueprints and sketches to complete basic fuel distribution system work assignments.
  • You will use hand tools and shop equipment (e.g., pipe cutting and threading tools, portable pumps, dead weight gauge testers, air compressors, fuel tank cleaning and purging equipment) to perform mechanical work.
