Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves working as a fire dispatcher on a national forest fire crew, where you'll coordinate resources like people, equipment, and aircraft to respond to wildfires and emergencies.
You'll handle calls, track requests, manage weather data, and ensure everything runs smoothly during fire suppression efforts.
It's a good fit for someone with hands-on experience in emergency dispatching or wildland firefighting who thrives in fast-paced, high-stakes situations and pays close attention to details.
This position is located within a National Forest. The position is located on a fire crew as a crewmember within the fire management organization.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a fire dispatcher in support of fire suppression activities.

GW-06: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5). GS-06: There is no substitution of education for this position.
Examples of specialized experience include: Serving as a dispatcher, receiving, filling, and tracking resource requests for fire and other emergency incidents.
Arranging for ground and air transportation of personnel, supplies, and equipment in support of emergency and project activities.
Collecting, processing, and disseminating weather and smoke management information into computer programs or databases.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
In accordance with USDA Department Regulation 4430-792-2, this position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the USDA Drug Free Workplace Program and subject to pre-employment drug testing.
All applicants selected for this position will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
Incumbents of this position will be required to submit to a urinalysis on an ongoing random basis, after appointment as directed.
