Summary

This job involves leading a team of workers to maintain and care for trees, shrubs, and landscapes in city streets and parks, including tasks like planting, pruning, spraying, and ensuring safety.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in tree care and landscaping who enjoys supervising others and managing daily operations in an outdoor, public setting.

  • High school diploma or GED, preferably with horticulture coursework

Full Job Description

Under general supervision, supervises a moderately large group of workers engaged in removing, planting, cultivating, pruning, spraying trees and shrubs and performing landscape work in streets and municipal parks. 

Requirements

1.Supervises a moderately large group of workers engaged in removing, planting, transplanting, moving, pruning, spraying, cultivating and caring for diseased and damaged trees and shrubs.
2.Performs forestry related tasks as assigned by supervisors.
3.Assigns work and instructs crew about appropriate techniques for forestry tasks.
4.Ensures that proper safety precautions are used with regards to workers, the public and adjacent property when removing large branches or trees.
5.Instructs subordinates in the preparation of spraying solutions.
6.Applies pesticides.
7.Inspects work in process and upon completion.
8.Monitors employee schedules and attendance.
9.Transfers workers from job to job and/or tools and supplies to various activities.
10.Monitors and manages crew's equipment and vehicles.
11.Maintains daily work records of projects and forestry/tree service request databases. 

Qualifications

High School graduation or GED, preferably with completion of coursework in horticulture.

Two years of experience in caring for and cultivating trees and shrubs including pruning, spraying, planting and in landscaping. One year of experience in a supervisory capacity.
