Requirements

In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the state forest facilities within the Sproul Forest District, ensuring the trails, roads, bridges, and buildings are well-kept. This will involve tasks such as cleaning culverts, cutting down trees and brush, and performing construction and maintenance work using the necessary tools and equipment. Additionally, you will assist in maintaining the forest boundary lines and signs by installing posts, repainting marked trees, and cutting vegetation. In the event of a forest fire, you will play a crucial role in the suppression efforts by removing vegetation, patrolling fire lines, and operating portable pumps. Your dedication to preserving the natural beauty and functionality of the Sproul Forest District will be essential in this position.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026, through November 2026, at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday - Wednesday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Thursday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
