Job Description

Summary

This job involves preparing simple meals, serving food to residents, and keeping kitchen and dining areas clean in a veterans' home run by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.

You'll help support veterans by ensuring they get nutritious food and a safe environment.

It's a great fit for someone who likes hands-on work with food and interacting with people, especially if you have some experience in food service and enjoy helping others.

Key Requirements

  • Ability to perform routine food preparation tasks, such as assembling trays and following special diet instructions
  • Physical ability to lift cases of food and beverages, and load/transport food carts
  • Skills in operating dish machines and cleaning/sanitizing food preparation equipment and areas
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting color coding for special diets and menu tickets
  • Experience recording inventory of food and non-food items
  • Availability for full-time schedule: 40 hours/week, 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM with rotating days and weekends
  • Pass medical examination and background checks, including PA State Police, FBI clearance, and Older Adult Protective Services Act requirements

Requirements

In this position, you will perform routine work in the preparation of meals and the sanitation of food preparation and serving areas.

Your work will involve preparing food as directed, lifting cases of food and beverage products, and loading and transporting food carts.

You will also read and interpret color coding for special diets, assemble resident trays following a menu ticket, and set up the serving line as needed.

Some of your duties will include loading and operating a dish machine, cleaning dining rooms and serving areas, and cleaning and sanitizing food preparation equipment.

Additionally, you will record use of food and non-food items on inventory sheets and assist in the preparation for special functions.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM, rotating days and weekends , with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
