Requirements
We’re seeking qualified Fitness Instructors to perform meaningful work through programming and exceptional learning experiences. This role focuses on building strong community connections through group classes or one-on-one training.
As a Group Fitness Instructor, you will be responsible for developing and creating an enthusiastic and welcoming group environment in a variety of land-based and/or aquatic-based classes. Successful candidates must be trained in health and fitness, teaching techniques, verbal, and nonverbal cueing, and provide effective modifications for all levels of participants.
As a Certified Personal Trainer, exceptional customer service skills and experience working with a diverse range of clients is essential. The ideal candidate shares their expertise and knowledge while inspiring, motivating, and supporting others on their fitness journeys.

• Ashburn Recreation & Community Center, Ashburn, VA
Group Fitness Instructor responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Develops, plans, and leads effective and safe land-based and/or aquatic-based group exercise classes.
• Motivates class participants and upholds fitness policies and procedures while teaching classes.
• Prepares for class promptly with the set-up and breakdown of equipment and materials.
• Instructs and monitors participants during class by showing proper form, use of equipment, and modifications based on participant skills and abilities.
• Completes all administrative responsibilities associated with group fitness classes and events.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment for participants, staff, and other instructors before, during, and after class.
• Actively promote and seek new participants for all classes and provide exceptional customer service.
• Stays up to date with industry standards and fitness trends.
• Communicates effectively with staff and all patrons.
• Participate in monthly meetings, events, and in-services.
• May perform additional duties related to their position.
Personal Trainer responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Serves a diverse population, including but not limited to youth, adults, individuals with disabilities, and seniors.
• Develops individualized or small group training programs consistent with our members’ personal fitness and exercise goals.
• Effectively communicates and conducts fitness consultations with new clients, including pre-participation screenings, goal-setting assessments, and movement screenings.
• Provides a safe experience and monitors clients during training sessions on proper use of fitness equipment, movement, form, and techniques.
• Completes all administrative requirements promptly and is associated with each client’s fitness plan.
• Stays up to date with industry standards, fitness trends, and continuing education.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment for clients when working with fitness equipment.
• Actively promote and seek new clients and provide exceptional customer service.
• Participate in monthly meetings, events, and in-services.
• May perform additional duties related to their position.
*Schedules are flexible and can include morning, evening, and weekend hours. Hours vary based on client, center, and some holiday needs. *
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent and a nationally recognized group fitness certification. Must have CPR/AED. Must be physically able to lift 50 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently
Preferred Qualifications:
• Six (6) months of experience teaching group fitness classes.
• Certification recognized by the NCCA-National Commission for Certifying Agencies (ACSM, NASM, NSCA, ACE) or Zumba, Pilates, Cycling, and RYT200.
• Bilingual.
• First Aid certification.
Personal Trainer:
High School diploma or equivalent and a nationally recognized personal trainer certification. Must have CPR/AED. Must be physically able to lift 50 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Six (6) months of personal training experience.
• Certification recognized by the NCCA-National Commission for Certifying Agencies (ACSM, NASM, NSCA, ACE).
• Bilingual.
• First Aid certification.
Additional Information
Must undergo a criminal background check. Must maintain applicable fitness certifications. Must maintain a CPR/AED certification.
