Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: THIS POSITION IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR SPECIAL RETIREMENT COVERAGE (SRC).

To qualify for the GS-09 level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Firefighting and fire prevention theory and techniques.

(2) Planning and directing fire protection and prevention programs. (3) Overseeing technical authority for fire protection/inspection for construction projects.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this grade level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the specialized experience required to qualify for the GS-09 level you must also possess and maintain ALL the following Department of Defense (or reciprocal equivalent) certifications: Fire Inspector II Fire Instructor II Fire Officer II HAZMAT Technician HAZMAT Operations HAZMAT Incident Commander You MUST submit a copy of the above certifications certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) (AND California or National Registry EMT Certification Card indicating a future expiration).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

  • Serve as the program leader for fire prevention.
  • Inspect complex construction plans, drawings, design specifications, and contract specifications for compliance with applicable fire protection.
  • Implement objectives for the Natick fire protection/inspection and safety program.
  • Provide expert fire protection and fire prevention consultation.
  • Attend preconstruction conferences to brief contractor personnel on fire safety procedures and requirements.
  • Provide technical advice on long-term planning programs related to fire protection engineering.
