About the Position: This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) overseeing work in controlling and extinguishing fires, emergency medical and HAZMAT situations 2) distributing, coordinating, and monitoring work assignments of others; 3) and evaluating, planning and directing the fire prevention and protection programs and operations.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the specialized experience required to qualify for the GS-13 level you must also possess and maintain ALL the following Department of Defense (or reciprocal equivalent) certifications, certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.Must possess and maintain DoD Firefighter Certifications: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor III, Fire Inspector II, HAZMAT Incident Commander, Airport Firefighter.
