Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Provide technical authority in the interpretation and adaptation of fire protection codes for unique or high-hazard facilities; 2) Perform visual and operational inspections of fire protection alarm systems and associated equipment within diverse types of operations; 3) Conduct fire drills in buildings of various sizes and occupancy levels; 4) Inspect facilities prior to occupancy changes to determine if increased fire protection measures are required; and 5) Provide training in basic fire protection methods and fire regulations.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the specialized experience required to qualify for the GS-10 level you must also possess and maintain ALL the following Department of Defense (or reciprocal equivalent) certifications, certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.
