Job Description

Summary

This job involves inspecting buildings and facilities on a military base to spot and fix fire hazards, ensuring everything follows fire safety rules, and teaching people how to prevent fires.

It also includes reviewing plans for new construction to make sure they're safe.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in fire safety inspections and training, who is detail-oriented and comfortable working in a structured government environment.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date.

Position approved for Firefighter special retirement coverage. Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) conducting fire/safety inspections to identify, reduce or eliminate the hazards that cause fires; (2) developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention; and (3) reviewing plans for new construction, alterations and/or modifications to buildings and/or structures to ensure compliance with fire codes and/or fire prevention practices.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the specialized experience and/or education required to qualify for the GS-09 level you must also possess and maintain ALL the following Department of Defense (or reciprocal equivalent) certification, certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.

Must possess and maintain DoD Firefighter Certifications: Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor I, Hazardous Materials Operations, Pumper Driver/Operator.

NOTE: You MUST attach a copy of ALL required certificates to your application package. Major Duties:

  • As a Fire Protection Inspector, you will perform the following duties:
  • Performs Fire Inspections of facilities, grounds and operations to identify and facilitate the correction of violations of fire codes and regulations and other identified fire hazards.
  • Conducts inspections of buildings and facilities throughout the installation.
  • Assists in reviewing plans for new construction and alteration and extension of existing structures recommending changes and additions to ensure compliance with fire code and regulation requirements.
  • Develops, delivers and conducts fire and life safety education to secure client involvement in fire prevention, detection, and suppression safety and evacuation emphasizing fire prevention topics.
  • Performs other duties in support of the fire operations and prevention protection program.
