Key Requirements

  • DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification (or equivalent IFSAC/PRO-Board) including Fire Officer IV, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, HAZMAT Incident Commander, and Airport Firefighter
  • State or National Registry EMT Certification with a valid expiration date
  • Ability to serve as Incident Commander for large-scale operations, such as wildland fires over 180,000 acres near munitions and sensitive habitats
  • Knowledge of special retirement coverage (SRC) provisions for firefighters, including potential maximum entry age and mandatory retirement

Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position:This position is located at Fort Hood, TX This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:managing a comprehensive fire protection program to include wildland firefighting, Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARRF), technical rescue (Swiftwater, Confined Space, Tunnel Rescue) and emergency services for a large multi-modal power projection platform military installation, municipality, or a large organization; leading firefighting and emergency services personnel/ developing polices and procedure overseeing training certification program; managing emergency preparedness and response compliance and providing technical guidance to subordinates and /or leadership on fire protection and life safety requirements.

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M AND a State or National Registry EMT Certification Card indicating a future expiration date when applicable.

Fire Officer IV Fire Inspector II Fire Instructor II HAZMAT Incident Commander Airport Firefighter Major Duties:

  • Serves as Chief of Fire and Emergency Services and negotiates mutual aid agreements with Fire Departments in surrounding communities and counties.
  • Manage department property book ensuing accurate property accountability and ensure cyclic and sensitive item inventories are conducted.
  • Serves as incident Commander and directs operations involving large wildland fires in and around munitions impact areas greater than 180k acres, as well as fire in and around endangered bird species habitat areas.
  • Administers the overall fire prevention program for the installation including fire prevention inspections and development of methods and regulatory controls for Mission Essential Vulnerability Assessments
