Full Job Description

This vacancy is for a GS-0501-9, Financial Management Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FACILITY ALAMEDA in ALAMEDA, California.

To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

Monitoring obligations, developing, gathering and analyzing financial data, reconciliation and oversight of accounts.

Researching and resolving errors related to orders, deliveries and billing, track orders, monitor corrective action plans.

Participating in financial audits, performing auditing assignments while applying financial principles, methods, techniques and procedures.

Managing spreadsheets using software such as Microsoft Excel or other programs OR Have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B.

or J.D., if related.

OR A combination of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in or related to the work of this position and graduate level education that provided the specific knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

You will serve as a Financial Management Specialist and be responsible for coordinating all funding and purchasing issues necessary to support the delivery of industrial services to their area of responsibility.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Performs routine tasks to operate a financial management information system.

Records daily transactions and provides data for budget reporting. Monitors authorized and actual expenditures to prevent budget overruns.

Devises new or revises existing procedures to improve resource accountability and reporting data. Prepares a variety of routine financial reports for senior management review.

Performs analysis and reconciliation of day-to-day accounts. Independently applies conventional accounting principles to journalize accounting transactions to the general ledger in a functional area.

Ensures sufficient funding available in selected accounts for purchases initiated at unit.
