Full Job Description

This position is located in National Parks of Eastern North Carolina, in the Division of Maintenance.

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for National Parks of Eastern North Carolina is March to October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.

Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2026. This position is being filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority (FUL). See below under Additional Information for further eligibility guidance.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.

Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.

(includes blueprinting reading) Knowledge of Materials If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.

Performance of sanitation maintenance and custodial services on grounds and in buildings. Mowing and maintenance of grounds and trails using a variety of equipment.

Applies a general knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical, masonry, painting, and plumbing techniques. Uses and maintains a variety of tools used for general maintenance. Performs routine inspections.

Maintenance and repair on all operated equipment and tools.

Area Information: This position is within the Division of Maintenance and support the maintenance of park structures within the facilities maintenance and operations program for all three Outer Banks Group parks - Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, and Wright Brothers National Memorial.

Duty station is located at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site in Manteo, NC: Fort Raleigh National Historic Site preserves and interprets the site of the first English Colony in the New World, is the site of the theatrical production, The Lost Colony, and interprets the historical events of the history of the Native Americans, European Americans, and African Americans who lived on Roanoke Island, North Carolina.

The Outer Banks are comprised by several towns including Manteo, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Buxton, and Ocracoke. The area is a beach destination.

The beaches, as well as Albemarle and Pamlico sounds, provide exceptional recreational opportunities, such as fishing, surfing, boating, and many other watersports.

There are several highly rated elementary, middle, and high schools and numerous extracurricular activities available for children.

These towns all have homes for sale or rent and are within reasonable driving distance.

The Outer Banks has many modern conveniences, such as grocery stores, retail shopping, banks, a hospital, and many restaurants.

Cost of living on the Outer Banks is somewhat expensive as compared to other eastern North Carolina communities.
