Full Job Description

This Recreation Fee Technician position is located at Arches National Park in Moab, Utah.

The incumbent performs a variety of technically challenging duties associated with the collection, deposit, tracking, and expenditure of fee revenue and donations collected from the public All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/06/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience.

To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time).

If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).

This experience includes activities such as: performing fee collection, accounting, or financial duties to include operating a point-of-sale system; using an automated financial system to perform accounting and/or financial transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial record; or resolving software issues that arise in the remittance and/or fee collection process.

You must include hours per week worked.

-OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate-level study (18 semester hours or equivalent) that directly applies to the work of the position in a field such as accounting, business, or finance.

The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. If you are using education to qualify you must submit a copy of your transcripts.

-OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above.

For example, 6 months of the specialized experience described in A above (50% of the experience requirement), and 12 semester hours of graduate study from an accredited institution (75% of the qualifying education) as specified in B above, equals greater than 100% of the total requirement.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service); with few exceptions as outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b).

Requirements Continued Probationary Period: As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service.

In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.

Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized.

In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated.

Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. Major Duties:

This is a permanent, career-seasonal position subject to a period of non-pay status for up to one pay period (two weeks) per year, scheduled in January.

Career-seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis.

Major Duties: Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others.

Review shift reports and count funds collected; Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors.

Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions, and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession-operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc.

Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds.

Review and verify the functionality of new fee related systems or modifications to existing systems as a result of regulatory and program requirements.

Review and verify the accuracy of manuals and/or standard operating procedures for the implementation of new and existing system designs and/or modifications.

Provide informal and formal training and education to employees, partners, volunteers, interns, cooperating association representatives, etc.

regarding automated and non-automated fee processes, systems, software programs, tools, etc.

Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items.

Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.

If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, and other emergency response duties.

Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station.

Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight.

Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods.

Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations. Area Information: Arches National Park contains the world's largest concentration of natural stone openings.

Arches, spires, balanced rocks, canyons and fins of colorful red rocks are set against the dramatic backdrop of the La Sal Mountains, rising to over 12,000 feet in elevation.

Due to Arches' close proximity to Moab, which is only five miles away, the park is a very popular destination for tourist from all over the US and the world, with a current visitation of almost 1.5 million annually.
