DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversees the Stoppage Mitigation crews’ daily operations. Plans, coordinates, and directs the activities utilizing the INFOR system by generating/closing inspections. Organize and assign the work of collection system maintenance teams, and monitors work in progress. Ensures that employees have adequate work supplies and properly functioning equipment in order to perform assigned tasks. Analyzes and resolves staff, equipment, and operating problems. Reviews operations policies and procedures; recommends changes to increase efficiency and implements approved changes. Trains new employees. Sets up and maintains employee attendance records in Kronos. Prepares periodic employee performance evaluations (HEAR Plans) in TMS and reviews contents with the employee. Prepares periodic production reports as required and/or requested. Assists with daily operations tasks as needed, drives City vehicle. Observes safety regulations and ensures that crews do the same.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position routinely requires lifting moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There is routine exposure to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution.

This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four (4) years of progressively responsible work experience in the maintenance field are required.

A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for the experience requirement.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
May require a valid Texas Class "C" driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).

Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge, ability, and experience in the following:
  • Wastewater maintenance, operating moderately complex equipment in the wastewater collection system.
  • Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Infor Public Sector (IPS), or a work order tracking system application.
  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver License (CDL), Collection III License or can obtain a CDL license within eight (8) months of employment.
  • Willing to work rotating shifts, nights, and weekends, in various weather climates, around extraneous odors, with experience operating jet rodding units/combination cleaning.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
