Job Description

Summary

This job involves maintaining and repairing building equipment in a juvenile center, using skills like carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and HVAC maintenance to keep facilities safe and functional.

Key Requirements

  • Graduation from high school, GED, four-year apprenticeship, or two-year technical school

  • Substitution of experience in air-conditioning, heating, or refrigeration for training on a year-for-year basis
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance and routine repairs on equipment such as motors, belts, seals, and fuses
  • Knowledge of safety procedures to eliminate hazards and conduct inspections of building systems
  • Assistance in procurement of parts and materials for repairs
  • Possible requirement for EPA certification in refrigerant recycling under the Clean Air Act

Full Job Description

Participates in Building Equipment Maintenance function using carpentry, electrical, plumbing, roofing, and other maintenance skills. Performs preventative maintenance on heating and cooling equipment such as tightening fan belts, changing filter, etc. Performs routine repairs to equipment by replacing motor, belts, seals, fuses etc. Maintains adequate safety protection and procedures for public and building occupants by ensuring the elimination of dire and other safety hazards. Performs periodic and mandatory environmental testing of lights, sound, and air quality. Performs safety inspections of building equipment such as security systems and mechanical. Assists Administrative Personnel in procurement procedures in obtaining parts and materials necessary to perform maintenance and repairs to building equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Training: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or GED or four year apprenticeship program or two year post secondary technical school.
Substitution: Experience in air-conditioning, heating or refrigeration may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.

Experience: Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in heating, cooling, ventilation or the mechanical or building trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plasterer, painter, welder, machinist, mechanic or masonry work.

Special Requirement: Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
