Job Description

Summary

This role involves providing high-level administrative support to the head of the Office of Economic Development in Michigan's Transportation Department, including managing office tasks, coordinating activities, and acting as a key contact between the leader and staff or external agencies.

It requires handling sensitive information with discretion and making independent decisions based on the leader's preferences.

A good fit would be someone with strong organizational skills, experience in executive support, and the ability to communicate diplomatically in a government setting.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education
  • Five years of administrative support experience involving personal computer use for correspondence, reports, charts, and data management
  • Two years of experience equivalent to advanced level administrative support (e.g., Secretary E8 or Legal Secretary E8)
  • Or one year equivalent to Secretary 9, Legal Secretary 9, or Senior Executive Management Assistant 9
  • Strong skills in confidentiality, diplomacy, and independent judgment
  • Ability to act as a liaison with staff, departments, and governmental agencies

Full Job Description

This position serves as the Executive Secretary for the Administrator of the Office of Economic Development (OED), providing management support and coordinating office activities.

Provide administrative support where interpretations and decisions requiring knowledge of administrator’s viewpoints and independent judgment in making decisions are required.

Act as a liaison between the Administrator and bureau staff, department staff, and governmental agencies.

Perform secretarial duties which require a high degree of confidentiality, diplomacy, and a wide range of knowledge of the office and department’s goals and functions.


The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate through the maximum rate of the Executive Secretary E10 position.

Requirements

Education
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience
Five years of administrative support experience where use of a personal computer to prepare correspondence, reports, charts, etc., or to enter/retrieve/update information is an essential part of the work, including two years equivalent to advanced (8) level administrative support work, Secretary E8, or Legal Secretary E8; or, one year equivalent to a Secretary 9, Legal Secretary 9, or Senior Executive Management Assistant 9.
