Job Description

Summary

This role leads the Alaska Commission on Judicial Conduct, overseeing investigations into complaints against judges to ensure ethical standards in the court system.

It involves analyzing legal issues, managing staff, and communicating findings to various audiences.

A good fit would be an experienced Alaska-barred attorney with strong ethics knowledge, impartial judgment, and clear communication skills, ideally living near Anchorage.

Required Qualifications

  • Admission to the Alaska State Bar with a minimum of 5 years of legal experience required at the time of hire.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the provisions of the Code of Judicial Conduct and its application to Alaska’s culture and environment.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain legal and ethical concepts to a variety of stakeholders, including judges, attorneys, public officials, and the public.
  • A high level of trustworthiness, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Exceptional analytical skills to assess complaints, legal issues, and evidence in a thorough and impartial manner.
  • Technological proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management tools expected.

It is expected that the successful applicant resides in the Greater Anchorage or Matanuska-Susitna area. Supervisory experience is desirable.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the minimum qualifications listed above.

If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S.

education programs; or an accredited U.S.

post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution.

It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

NEPOTISM REVIEWTo avoid a conflict of interest and the appearance of impropriety, applicants who have a spouse, close relative, and/or regular member of their household employed by the Alaska Court System may not be considered for employment without the approval of the Administrative Director.

BACKGROUND CHECK A background check will be conducted prior to an employment offer being made.

Applicants who have prior convictions that have been set aside under the terms of a suspended imposition of sentence (SIS) may answer "no" to these questions.
