This job involves operating light and heavy equipment to maintain roads, highways, and other infrastructure in rural Alaska, helping keep transportation systems running smoothly in challenging weather and terrain.

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Southcoast Region Highways and Aviation/M&O is looking for an Equipment Operator, Journey 1/2 in Iliamna to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
Equipment Operator Journey 1:The incumbent will perform equipment operations commensurate with a journey-level operator.
The main focus of this position will be to utilize various types of light duty equipment to perform maintenance activities in support of State of Alaska mission and maintenance of infrastructure.
Use of heavy-duty equipment will be in a training capacity.
Equipment Operator Journey 2:
The incumbent will perform equipment operations commensurate with a journeyman level operator. The main focus of this position will be to utilize various types of heavy equipment to perform maintenance activities. Shift work may be required.

The crew operates and maintains our airport and highways in all conditions, year around.
Whether plowing snow in near “white-out” conditions; repairing asphalt; maintaining airfield lighting and signs; or training for any emergency that may occur.

Special Note:Equipment Operator Journey 1:As a condition of employment, the incumbent shall obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (in accordance with49 CFR Part 383.23) within 180 days of hire and shall comply with all provisions set forth in the most recent Equipment Operator Flex Letter of Agreement (LOA).
Failure to obtain the required licensure within the specified timeframe shall result in termination of employment.
The incumbent must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements applicable to CDL and safety-sensitive positions. Drug screening is required prior to operating any equipment requiring a CDL.
Upon licensure, the incumbent shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with established policy.
Where applicable, the incumbent shall obtain and maintain firearms qualification.
Equipment Operator Journey 2:
Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in accordance with 49 CFR Part 383.23, as well as compliance with the most recent Equipment Operator Flex Letter of Agreement (LOA), is required.
A valid Tanker (N) endorsement is required at the time of appointment or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire under a conditional memorandum.
Management may also require the incumbent to obtain a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) endorsement; however, this is not required at the time of appointment.
The incumbent must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements applicable to CDL and safety-sensitive positions, including a background check and pre-employment drug testing. Upon appointment, the incumbent shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with policy.
Where applicable, the incumbent shall obtain and maintain firearms qualification.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED
This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383), to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties, and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.
Equipment Operatory Journey 1
Hire approval is conditional in that the proposed appointee successfully obtains a Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire and signs an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
Equipment Operator Journey 2A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire. A conditional hire approval can only be given for endorsements.
This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain an N-Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
ARMS & AMMUNITION REQUIREMENTThis position requires the use of firearm or ammunition.

A "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" means an offense that:

If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
