Requirements

In this position, you will be responsible for operating various heavy construction and maintenance equipment across a diverse array of projects managed by the Bituminous District. Your duties will include driving motorized vehicles, adhering to the specifications for Equipment Operator B, to transport equipment, fuel, stone, slag, earth, and other materials while overseeing loading and unloading processes. This encompasses the operation of pickups and small dump trucks.

Additionally, you will tow trailers weighing between 12,000 lbs. and 40,000 lbs., which requires a Class A Commercial Driver’s License, while navigating congested roads with construction equipment. Your work will primarily take place on secondary roads and streets throughout western Pennsylvania, including areas in and around the City of Pittsburgh. You will also be tasked with positioning a backhoe and hi-lift on a trailer, transporting them to project sites, and returning using the appropriate dump truck.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more: or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience or training.


Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires that candidates possess a valid Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
