Job Description

Summary

This job involves reviewing proposals for water infrastructure projects to help communities get loans and grants for clean water initiatives, while checking how these projects affect the environment.

It also includes working with other government teams and local groups to manage funding programs.

A good fit would be someone with a background in environmental or related sciences who enjoys detail-oriented work and coordinating with others to support public health and water quality.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, engineering, environmental studies, physical sciences, resource development, or resource management
  • OR Bachelor's degree in any major with at least 30 semester credits in relevant fields like biochemistry, biology, chemistry, ecology, engineering, environmental science, geology, or related disciplines
  • For EQA 9: No specific professional experience required
  • For EQA 10: One year of professional experience equivalent to EQA 9
  • For EQA P11: Two years of professional experience equivalent to EQA 9, including one year equivalent to EQA 10
  • Ability to review water project proposals, assess environmental impacts, and coordinate with state agencies and local governments
  • Willingness to work in Grand Rapids, Bay City, or Lansing district offices, with possible hybrid remote schedule within Michigan

This position will function as an Environmental Quality Analyst within the Water Infrastructure Funding and Financing Section, assisting with water infrastructure financing and funding to communities.

This position performs reviews of standard/routine water project proposals and plans for approval of loan requests from municipalities/water suppliers participating in the Clean Water State Revolving Fund, the Strategic Water Quality Initiatives Fund, and/or the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan programs, as well as new state or federal loan or grant programs, as applicable.

This includes determining the project proposal’s impacts to the environment as well as coordinating loan and grant activities with other Divisions within the department and other state agencies, as applicable, and local government entities.

We are recruiting to fill two positions.

Position Description


The work location of these positions will be either within the either the Grand Rapids, Bay City, or Lansing District Office, depending on the selected candidate. However, the selected candidate may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule (combination of remote and in-person). Employees approved for schedules that include remote work must complete that work within Michigan. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed. When working remote, employees must use a designated workspace that is safe and professionally appropriate, allows for privacy, minimizes distractions, and includes secure internet access. Details regarding work location and schedule options for this position may be discussed during the interview process.


Requirements

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in the biological sciences, engineering, environmental studies and sustainability, physical sciences, resource development, or resource management.

OR

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with at least 30 semester (45 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: biochemistry, biology, botany, chemistry, crop and soil science, ecology, engineering, environmental health, environmental science, environmental studies and sustainability, forest management, geology, meteorology, microbiology, physical geography, physics, remote sensing, resource development, resource management, toxicology, or zoology.

Experience

Environmental Quality Analyst 9

No specific type or amount is required.

Environmental Quality Analyst 10

One year of professional experience equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst 9.

Environmental Quality Analyst P11

Two years of professional experience equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst including one year equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst 10.
