Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an entomologist for the Navy in Jacksonville, Florida, where you'll manage hazardous materials, evaluate pest control equipment, and develop programs to protect military personnel from insects and disease-carrying pests.

You'll oversee inventories of pesticides and lead efforts to test new methods for pest surveillance and control using safe, integrated approaches.

It's a good fit for someone with hands-on experience in biology or pest management who enjoys leading projects in a military health setting.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-09 level in federal or equivalent service
  • Experience designing, revising, and overseeing standard operating procedures for evaluating pest management equipment and methods
  • Knowledge of pest and vector control operations, including insecticide dispersal equipment and integrated pest management (IPM) techniques
  • Experience managing a Hazardous Material Control Program (HMCP), including pesticide inventories to ensure personnel safety and environmental protection

  • Ability to lead development of protocols for evaluating arthropod surveillance and control methods

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience in testing and evaluation of pest management equipment by designing, revising, and overseeing the implementation of standard operating procedures for evaluating new equipment and methods for surveillance and control of arthropods; Experience with pest and vector control operations with insecticide dispersal equipment to include developing and executing comprehensive programs using integrated pest management (IPM) techniques Experience managing a Hazardous Material Control Program (HMCP), including pesticide inventories to protect the safety of personnel and prevent, minimize, or eliminate hazardous material (HM) into the environment.

  • You will serve as the Hazardous Materials Program Manager leading efforts to evaluate new equipment and methods to protect warfighters from pests and vectors.
  • You will maintain and manage the Commands inventory of insecticide dispersal equipment and pesticides for use in operational pest management missions.
  • You will use concepts and methods of entomology or related biological science pests and vectors, pest identification, insect colony maintenance for use in biological studies, and integrated pest management.
  • You will lead the development of protocols for the rigorous evaluation of methods and equipment for arthropod surveillance and control.
