Summary

This entry-level job involves helping professional engineers and technicians with basic tasks like preparing work instructions, reviewing inspection reports, and updating technical procedures in a naval engineering setting.

It's ideal for someone starting out in technical support roles who enjoys hands-on assistance in a team environment, especially in a military or government context.

No advanced degrees are needed, but some practical experience or equivalent training is key.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-03 level, such as assisting in engineering research or applying basic scientific principles
  • Experience supporting engineering functions in a unit or team, including fact-finding and simple technical tasks
  • Ability to perform routine duties like preparing work procedures and sequencing testing instructions
  • Skill in assisting with reviews of inspection data, reports, and deficiencies
  • Capability to help prepare changes to technical procedures based on local or higher authority requirements
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain necessary security clearance for Department of the Navy positions
  • Willingness to work in Hawaii with potential for shift work or environmental conditions in a fleet setting

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector supporting engineering functions for a unit or team such as: assisting in fact-finding or research; utilizing mathematical and scientific principles to perform simple tasks; and/or applying basic or commonly used rules or procedures of engineering to assist higher-graded engineers or technicians.

  • You will perform a variety of routine duties in support of professional engineers and engineering technicians.
  • You will assist engineers and technicians in preparing work procedures, which sequence work and/or testing and provides explicit instructions for inspections, connection of temporary systems and/or testing of equipment.
  • You will assist engineers and technicians in reviewing inspection data such as inspection reports and deficiencies.
  • You will assist engineers and technicians in preparing changes to specific technical procedures, both locally developed or detailed technical requirements, established by higher authority.
