About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA.

The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost.

Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports and recreation activities.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator ~ without more than normal supervision.

I have the ability to perform common duties of Engineering Equipment Operator. I can transport tools and materials to job site and direct vehicle traffic for safe movement on site.

I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, climbing, stooping and working in uncomfortable positions.

Lifts and carries equipment and component parts weighing up to 44 lbs. and occasionally heavier. Receives assistance lifting anything over 45 pounds.

Moves snow guns and air/water hoses, while operational and pressurized in excess of 350 psi. WORKING CONDITIONS: Most work is performed outdoors or in open area shops.

Incumbent is exposed to long periods of extreme cold, wind and inclement weather, high levels of noise, slippery surfaces, day and night (in the winter).

Work is performed both indoors in a workshop setting and outdoors on site in the summer months.

Serious injury may result when working with high pressure hoses, refueling equipment with highly combustible material, fan operated snow machines and heavy vehicular equipment. Major Duties:

  • Operate large industrial wood tube-grinder to process waste wood material for recycle market.
  • Operate excavator with grapple attachment to perform loading of waste wood material into industrial tube-grinder.
  • Operate excavator to perform the loading and unloading of recycling materials (Metal, Cardboard and Paper).
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, service, and inspection of Recycle Program Wood Tube Grinder equipment. Services, repairs, and installs machinery components.
  • Operate material equipment including forklifts and personnel man-lifts, motor vehicles up to 5-ton,such as shop utility trucks and flatbeds.
