This role involves leading an endodontics training program at a VA hospital in Indianapolis, where you'll supervise dental residents, oversee their research projects with a local university, and provide specialized dental care to patients with complex medical needs.
It's ideal for an experienced endodontist who enjoys teaching, managing teams, and handling advanced treatments in a supportive government healthcare setting.
The position combines clinical work with leadership in education and program development.
The VA Endodontic Program Director provides clinical supervision for the VA Endodontic Resident, Dental Assistant, and General Practice Residents.
He/She also oversees the Research the Endodontic Resident completes in collaboration with the IU School of Dentistry. He/She would be on the IRB for the IU Medical Center.

The incumbent should have graduated from an accredited Dental School in the USA or Canada, or an approved substitute thereof. They must have completed their residency program for their given field.
They will be involved with dental consultations and the provision of Endodontic Specialty level therapy for Medically Compromised patients as briefly described above. Basic Requirements: Citizenship.
Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with section A, chapter 3, paragraph 3g, this part.) Education.
Degree of doctor of dental surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry.
The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Approved schools are: 1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.
(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence.
Residency or Comparable Experience.
Completion of an approved residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients.
Leadership/Manager Positions.
Dentist leadership and management positions may be Section Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, Service Chiefs, VISN Lead Dentists, Service Line Managers, Central Office Program Positions, Chiefs of Staff, or Directors (i.e., medical center and Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN)).
Dentists in leadership positions must demonstrate outstanding professional ability in the practice of dentistry or a dental specialty, and healthcare administration, as well as the ability to guide the development and implementation of programs within their respective domain.
These would include, but are not limited to dental practice, professional standards, personnel issues, quality and performance improvement.
Licensure and Registration: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia.
The dentist must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.

The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of 03 to 06.
Physical Requirements: Work requires prolonged standing or sitting in awkward positions, special manual dexterity to manipulate materials and instruments. Occasional lifting. Major Duties:

The VA Endodontic Program Director also has general clinical responsibilities including, but not limited to: - Advanced Endodontic Diagnosis (Pulpal & Periapical Diagnosis) - Endodontic Imaging Performance and Interpretation (Two & Three Dimensional) - Advanced Non-Surgical Endodontic Therapy on all tooth types - Advanced Surgical Endodontic Therapy on all tooth types.
- Osseous Grafting is association with Surgical Endodontics. - Endodontic Instrumentation for Post Space. - Advanced use of Apex Locators for Endodontic Therapy.
- Advanced use of Technologies for Endodontics such as System B, Calamus Flow, Electric Pulp Tester, ProMark Motor & Handpiece, ProUltra Piezo Electric, X-Tip, Liga Jet, Trans Illumination, etc.
- Surgical extraction of teeth due to Failure of Endodontic Therapy. - Oral Surgery (fractured teeth, biopsy of lesions, I & D). - Conscious Sedation.
