Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves answering 911 emergency calls at a military base and quickly dispatching police, fire, medical, or other response teams with the right equipment to handle crises for aircraft, personnel, and the public.
It's a fast-paced role in a high-stress environment where you'll coordinate help for everything from accidents to hazardous material incidents.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide emergency services to the 1st Fighter Wing assigned aircraft and personnel as well as police, fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment for Police, Fire, Medical, HAZMAT, Confined Space, Nautical, and other types of emergencies.
Conditions Of Employment - Continued: IAW SA-2024-12, this position requires a physical/medical examination.
The physical/medical requirements of this position as determined are: (Light lifting (under 15 lbs.), light carrying (under 15 lbs.), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, ability to distinguish basic colors, and the ability to hear (hearing aid permitted).).
Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location.
Travel may include overnight stays.
Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions for Dispatching Series, 2151.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems.
Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of communications operations. Knowledge of basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval and input of data.
A qualified typist is not required. Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus, the kind of apparatus and equipment needed for the emergency at hand.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.
One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of communications operations.
Knowledge of basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval and input of data. A qualified typist is not required.
Ability to read grid maps which reflect such systems as electrical, water, gas, central heating distribution, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and pollution control.
Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus, the kind of apparatus and equipment needed for the emergency at hand.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations. Ability to work independently without immediate supervision.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:
Responds to emergency 911-call by providing emergency dispatching services. Performs Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) services to callers with medical emergencies.
Maintains maps, checklists and charts, including automated programs.
Operates and maintains telephones, automated data processing equipment, printers, recorders, facsimile equipment, and other devices installed in the dispatch center.
Prepares and maintains reports and records relating to emergency responses. Prepares and maintains duty schedules and conducts training relating to Dispatch Center.
