Job Description

Summary

This job is for an elementary teacher at a specialized school for blind students, where you'll teach using adapted methods, track student progress with data, and create a safe, engaging classroom.

You'll also develop personalized learning plans to meet each child's unique needs.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Completion of CAEP approved training program or eligibility for South Carolina certification via alternative routes
  • Valid South Carolina teaching certification (or eligibility to obtain) in elementary education
  • Ability to implement or learn appropriate communication modalities for students with sensory differences
  • Knowledge of best practices, research, and pedagogy for students with visual impairments
  • Thorough understanding of grade-level curriculum and South Carolina State Standards
  • Experience or ability to use technology effectively in teaching and classroom management

Full Job Description

Implement and refine district approved curriculum to meet the evolving educational needs of students. Systematically gather, analyze, and use data to measure student progress, guide instruction, and provide timely feedback. Uses technology effectively to enhance student learning and to manage the classroom. Maintain a safe, student-centered learning environment that is engaging and respectful. Manage classroom with clear, consistent expectations for student behavior with an aim to create a calm, safe, orderly learning community. Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans consistent with compliance requirements. Complete additional special education actions and attend meetings as applicable as part of a student’s educational team.

Requirements

Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Completion of a CAEP approved training program or eligible for South Carolina certification through the State Department of Education’s approved alternative certification routes. Valid South Carolina certification (or is eligible to obtain a South Carolina certificate) in the subject area(s) employed to teach. Ability to implement appropriate communication modality and/or to acquire requisite skills. Knowledge of and/or ability to acquire knowledge of the current best practices, research, and pedagogy required to meet the individual needs of students with sensory differences. Thorough understanding of grade level curriculum and the South Carolina State Standards. Ability to implement appropriate communication modality and/or to acquire requisite skills.
