Job Description

Summary

This job involves troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electronic systems, especially for air traffic control communications at a Navy installation.

You'll handle everything from fixing tiny circuit boards to designing system modifications and ensuring equipment meets safety standards.

Key Requirements

  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and calibrating General Purpose Test Equipment (GPETE) and Special Purpose Test Equipment (SPETE)
  • Skills in designing, modifying, and certifying communications systems to meet operational requirements
  • Ability to document maintenance actions, originate equipment modifications, and recommend component substitutions using MIL-SPEC and commercial standards
  • Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance on Air Traffic Control UHF/VHF systems per Navy instructions (e.g., 4790.4X)
  • Qualifications to meet electronic safety and repair standards, including handling 3M Maintenance systems and isolating radio interference

Full Job Description

You will serve as a ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN in the General Maintenance Branch, Ground Electronics Maintenance Division, Air Operations Department of NAVSTA.

GS-08- Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector and the specialized experience listed in the GS-07 section.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience troubleshooting and repairing micro/miniature electronic circuits, sometimes in a multi-layered/component dense, board environment.

Experience troubleshooting equipment malfunctions to the component level.

Use appropriate repair techniques to return equipment to acceptable operating performance as outlined in the technical manual and/or manufacturers specifications.

Experience troubleshooting and repairing General Purpose Test Equipment/Special Purpose Test Equipment (GPETE/SPETE) as required.

Schedule and maintain calibration requirements for all GPETE/SPETE assigned to the Ground Electronics Maintenance Division.

Finds alternate calibration means for equipment not supported by GPETE/SPETE . Experience designing and assisting in the design of communications systems and equipment for customers.

Test and certify that systems meet all operational and technical requirements as outlined in manufacturers or other relevant specifications.

Experience originating and developing modifications to electronic equipment to change its operational characteristics, improve reliability or enable it to operate compatibly in conjunction with other equipment or systems.

Recommends substitution of discrete electronic components using both MIL SPEC and commercial specification tables and drawings. Draws and verifies schematics when none are available.

Experience establishing methods and procedures for use by others in the preventive maintenance of Air Traffic Control Communications Systems installed by contractors and certifies operation in accordance with specifications GS-07 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience maintaining the 3M Maintenance system and installs Force Revisions and Feedback Reports.

Experience finding techniques used to isolate radio interference. Experience documenting maintenance actions.

Experience maintaining qualifications in all areas necessary to meet electronic safety and repair standards for assigned equipment.

Experience performing preventive/corrective electronic maintenance on equipment as assigned by the Work Center Leader or higher authority in accordance with current 4790.4X and other applicable instructions/publications.

  • You will be required to install, operate, modify and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on primary Air Traffic Control UHF/VHF communications systems.
  • You will maintain qualifications in all areas necessary to meet general/electronic safety and repair standards for assigned equipment.
  • You will troubleshoot and correct problems to keep equipment downtime to an absolute minimum.
  • You will perform tool inventories, order parts and supplies, maintain immediate work areas in a neat and clean condition.
