Summary

This job involves maintaining and repairing electronic controls and systems for machinery that produces coins at the U.S.

Mint in West Point, New York, including troubleshooting issues, installing equipment, and ensuring everything runs smoothly on one of three shifts.

It's a hands-on role that requires working with tools and sometimes in tight spaces, with moderate physical effort like lifting up to 40 pounds.

  • For WG-12 level: Independent troubleshooting and routine repairs on moderately complex systems
  • For WG-11 level: Independent routine repairs, component replacement, and wiring installation on standard systems

Full Job Description

This position is located on one of three shifts in the West Point Mint, Office of Production, Plant Engineering Division.

The position performs installation, maintenance, trouble analysis, rebuilding, overhauling, modifying, aligning and calibrating of integrated electronic equipment, electrical systems (computer, security and fire systems, data lines) and machinery used for numismatic coin production and packaging.

PHYSICAL EFFORT Assignments require moderate physical effort with the incumbent lifting, carrying and handling items (tools, materials, equipment, etc.) weighing up to 40 pounds.

Occasionally lifts items in excess of 40 pounds and assistance is usually available with heavy items. Work involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and crouching.

May work in sitting position for extended periods.

May work from ladders, scaffolds, platform lifts and hard to reach places AND You must show in your experience in the online application that you possess the knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

Major Duties:

The following are the duties of this position at the WG-12.

If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

Repair, perform trouble analysis, modify, calibrate, align, program and install new and existing complex systems, i.e.

coin presses, burnishers, ultrasonic cleaners and other related equipment, security, fires systems, programmable computers and solid-state controls.

Rebuild, overhaul, modify, install, maintain and test new and existing complex production and electronic equipment/systems.

Evaluate circuitry interrelationship, interaction and interconnection of assemblies and systems.

Trouble analyzes, rebuild and overhaul system, modifying techniques and procedures to specified parameters.

Coordinate with technical and professional personnel on matters affecting operating specifications, development of new control systems and their modification.
