Job Description
Summary
This job is for an entry-level electrician at a correctional facility in South Carolina, where you'll plan, maintain, and repair electronic systems like fire alarms, security fences, cameras, and locks to keep the prison running safely.
It's ideal for someone with hands-on experience in electrical work who can handle emergencies around the clock and is comfortable working in a secure environment.
You'll also need to complete basic training and help with other maintenance tasks as needed.
Key Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Five years of experience in construction or repair of institutional electrical systems
- Extensive knowledge of electronic systems including fire alarms, security fences, PA systems, CCTV, and electric locking
- Ability to plan, coordinate, schedule, and perform maintenance and preventive maintenance
- Willingness to assist other trades as needed
- Availability for 24-hour emergency on-call responsibility
- Successful completion of four weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire
Full Job Description
- Plan, coordinate, schedule and perform maintenance and preventive maintenance on all electronic systems to include the fire alarms, fence security, PA, CCTV, electric locking and other systems relating to the electronic trade throughout SCDC facilities and institutions.
- Position requires extensive knowledge of electronic systems and equipment.
- Must be able to assist other trades as needed.
- Position involves 24-hours emergency on-call responsibility.
Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and five (5) years' experience in the construction or repair of institutional electrical systems.
