At the Iowa Veterans Home, your work directly supports the care and wellbeing of Iowa’s veterans. Behind every meal served is a team ensuring equipment runs safely, efficiently, and reliably, and that’s where this role comes in.
We’re seeking an experienced electrician, ideally with commercial kitchen or food equipment experience, to help maintain and repair critical dietary systems that serve our residents every day.
What You’ll Do:- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on commercial kitchen equipment (ovens, kettles, dish machines, refrigeration units, and more)
- Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and gas-related issues in dietary systems
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems across the facility, including motors, alarms, and control systems
- Partner with HVAC technicians on industrial refrigeration diagnostics
- Install and commission new kitchen equipment
- Ensure all work complies with National Electrical Code and safety standards
- Document work orders and maintenance activity in CMMS systems
What We’re Looking For:- Experience as a journeyman electrician or equivalent
- Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical systems
- Experience with commercial kitchen or food service equipment (preferred, not required)
- Ability to read schematics and work across multiple systems
- A team-oriented mindset and commitment to safety

Qualifications
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
Three years of full-time work experience in skilled electrical work in the construction or repair of residential or commercial buildings.Successful completion of a standard electrician program at an accredited trade school.A total of three years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where one semester of an approved trade school electrician program is equivalent to six months of full-time experience.Successful completion of three years of an approved electrician apprenticeship program.Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Trades Helper which involved electrical duties.For additional information, please click on this link to view the job description.
Additional Information
Must be capable of operating forklift and other material handling equipment, and other heavy mobile equipment as necessary such as scissor lifts, manlifts, and other aerial platforms.Must be willing to work weekends and after hours performing assigned tasks, and must be willing to respond to on call requirements on weekends and after hours.Must obtain and maintain a valid Iowa Driver’s License.Certified Licensed Electrician is preferred.
