Summary

This job involves maintaining and testing fire alarm systems in buildings, documenting tests, handling related paperwork and communications, and ensuring everything works correctly during emergencies.

Key Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of tools, materials, techniques, and equipment in the electrical trade
  • Journeyman-level skills in the trade, including ability to work from blueprints or sketches
  • Knowledge of fire alarm signals, boxes, and life safety functions like evacuation sequences and door releases
  • Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs in high-rise buildings and stand/walk for long periods
  • Boston residency required upon hire
  • Pass RMV and CORI background checks

Full Job Description

Collects any documentation submitted at the acceptance test, records the names of all the persons present at the acceptance test, and records all signals received at the fire alarm panel and their descriptions.

When fire alarm panel is in alarm condition an EER verifies life safety functions, this includes but not limited to: proper sequence of evacuation, deactivation of stairwell door locks, release of magnetic door holders, stair pressurization, and master box trip or communicator activation, to name a few.

Requirements

An EER records any discrepancies such as code violations, improper sequence of operation, or any signals the fire alarm panel failed to receive from the fire alarm system etc.

Answer any and all correspondence regarding fire alarm systems from within the department, city, federal, and state offices, private agencies, civilians (ex. correspondence from Mayor's Hotline).

Assist the Fire Alarm Office in tracking of owners of master boxes and contracts.

Covers the Fire Prevention Counter for fire alarm plans submitted to the plans office, an EER assists the plans office in the electrical contractors with any correspondents between both parties until the permit is issued.

Tie in city master boxes to the fire alarm panel and the city municipal circuits.

Files approved plans and documentation until the Fire Alarm System is ready for an acceptance test and general office work.

Thorough knowledge of the tools, materials, techniques and equipment used in the trade, journeyman skill in the trade, ability to work from blueprints or sketches, ability to direct and train helpers and others in the trade.

Qualifications

5 years of experience required in related work; a C or D License may be substituted for 3 years of required experience.

Must have knowledge related to the operation and maintenance of Fire Alarm signals and boxes. The ability to climb stairs of multiple floors in high rise buildings.

The ability to walk throughout large area buildings and be standing for long periods of time.RMV background check required.CORI background check required. Boston Residency Required upon hire.
