This job involves inspecting and maintaining electrical parts in machinery at a naval shipyard, like lathes and mills, to ensure everything runs smoothly and safely.
You'll check for issues, suggest fixes, and do basic upkeep such as cleaning or replacing small parts.
It's a great fit for someone with hands-on electrical experience who enjoys troubleshooting equipment in a team setting.
You will serve as an ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT INSPECTOR in the Inside Machine Shop, Production Resources Department ofPORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work of a ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT INSPECTOR, WG-2854-11, without more than normal supervision such as: * Ability to use various electrical measuring equipment including but not limited to volt meters, ampere meters, megohmeters, multimeters, noise and vibration analyzers and tachometers.
* Must have a thorough background in electrical skills, electrical theory, and machinery controlled and driven electrical equipment.
* Familiar with the proper types, application and quantities of lubricant for electric motors, starter switches, transformers, dash pots, etc.
* Using electrician tools to perform maintenance functions such as tightening screws, cleaning contacts, changing fuses and brushes, making adjustments, etc.
* Reading and interpreting complex electrical drawings and technical manuals Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
