King County's Metro Transit Capital Division is seeking a dynamic and innovative Electrical Engineering Supervisor to lead a talented team of professionals and shape the future of sustainable public transportation.

As the Electrical Engineering Supervisor (Transit Capital Supervisor), you will oversee a team of 5-6 talented electrical engineers who support some of Metro’s most critical capital investments.

Your team’s portfolio spans State of Good Repair projects, Trolley Systems, Bus Electrification, Passenger Facilities program and Zero-Emissions program initiatives, and other high-impact programs.

In this role, you’ll set a strategic direction for the team, ensure high-quality engineering delivery, and cultivate a supportive environment where staff can grow and thrive. Your leadership will directly influence how Metro advances innovation, equity, and sustainability across the department.

Recruitment Information:

This recruitment will be used to fill one career service vacancy.

In addition, this selection process may be used to generate an eligibility pool for future career service, special duty assignment or term-limited temporary vacancies that may occur in this classification within the Capital Division.

The eligibility pool will be retained for 12 months from the date it is established and may be extended or used at the discretion of the hiring authority.

As an Electrical Engineering Supervisor, you will also:

  • Lead and expand the workgroup to align with Metro’s vision and expanding the Capital Division.

  • Provide guidance and oversight to junior engineers, offering expertise in electrical engineering principles and best practices.
  • Review and approve electrical engineering designs, calculations, and technical deliverables.

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive team culture that values diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences.

  • Manage resources strategically, identifying staffing needs, coordinating consultant support, and overseeing contract development and recruitment activities.
  • Develop, review and refine Scopes of Work, including level-of-effort estimates, deliverables, and contracting requirements.
  • Set clear performance expectations and provide constructive, growth-oriented evaluations for team members.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives for governance, workflows and cross-departmental collaboration within Metro Transit and across King County.
  • Ensure compliance with King County policies, procedures, standards and applicable regulations.
  • Provide technical support for legal matters involving contracts, claims, and agreements.
  • Partner with supervisory staff to resolve issues involving processes, project management, and contract administration.
  • Perform other related job duties.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license. Candidates licensed outside Washington must obtain Washington State PE licensure within six months of hire through reciprocity.

Experience

  • 10+ years as an electrical design engineer, including work on multi-disciplinary projects and 10–15 years in building/transportation structures.
  • Experience preparing construction documents and communicating engineering concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience, including leading and mentoring teams.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with electrical and lighting analysis/design tools including load calculations, fault current analysis, SKM Power Tools for Windows and AGI-32.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electric Code and local jurisdictional code adoptions.
  • Familiarity with engineering principles, budget planning, and software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Excel, SharePoint and other Microsoft office products.

  • Strong team-building and coordination skills, with the ability to support and manage a diverse team.
  • Exceptional analytical and creative problem-solving abilities, with a track record of driving innovation and making sound recommendations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Work Environment and Travel

  • Ability to work in office and industrial environments, including accessing rooftops and remote locations as needed.
  • A valid WA driver’s license (or ability to obtain one before hire) OR the ability to travel to other King County locations in a timely manner.

Desired Qualifications (not required):

  • Direct experience in performing economic life cycle cost analysis including cost estimating.
  • Working knowledge of Washington State Department of Transportation Standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of trolley traction power systems.
  • Work experience designing multiple, high profile, and complex projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with Revit (BIM) design software products.
  • Experience in working with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.

Work Schedule:

Our regular business hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. However, work outside of these hours may occasionally be required. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act, and therefore, is not eligible for overtime pay. We may also consider flexible hours.


Work Location:

Metro Transit works in a hybrid model, with days in the office as well as telecommuting. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change. The primary onsite location is 201 S. Jackson Street, Seattle, WA.

Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely.

The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment.

Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
