Requirements

As an Education Guidance Counselor, Corrections Education, you will provide individual and group educational counseling to incarcerated adults.

You will interview and guide inmates to determine their career objectives, post educational goals, and higher educational goals.

You will inform inmates about available educational programming and assist with resume writing, mock interviews, and job search efforts.

This role requires the ability to establish effective working relationships with educational staff to ensure sound educational plans, as well as a genuine desire to guide and encourage inmates to participate in programs that prepare them for reentry into the community.

In addition, you will serve as an alternate GED examiner, verify all mandated educational requirements are complete, and review inmate progress, performance, and attendance.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling, and four years of paraprofessional experience in education, social work, or counseling; or
  • Two years of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling, and a bachelor's degree in the social sciences, behavioral sciences, education, social work, counseling, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes one year of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
