Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting students with special needs in a Department of Defense school in Europe, helping with daily activities, physical assistance, and administrative tasks under the guidance of teachers.

About the Position: These positions are located within the Europe South District. Hours may vary. All candidates must reside within the local commuting area where the position is located.

Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

General Experience: One year of general experience.

General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of an Educational Aid (Special Education), such as preparing letters, schedules and other documents through the use of a personal computer, or assisting with the preparation of instructional materials.

OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications and Media Interpersonal Skills Standards Teaching Others Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks may not be promoted more than 2 grades within the preceding 52 weeks.

Major Duties:

  • Work with students individually or in small groups, in accordance with plans developed by the specialist and educator.
  • Lift, carries, transfers, and facilitates the motor development of students with physical disabilities.
  • Provide first aid assistance to students who receive minor injuries.
  • Assist and observes playground and recreational activities during physical education and recess periods.
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks, such as maintaining attendance records, filing student evaluations, scheduling make-up work, assisting the organization of field trips, and reviewing assignments.
  • Interact with school staff, students, and parents in a positive manner, and maintains confidentiality where the rights of children and parents are concerned.
