Job Description

Summary

This job is for an educational aide in a prekindergarten classroom at a military base school, where you'll help teachers by supporting young children with daily activities, preparing learning materials, and keeping the classroom running smoothly.

It's ideal for someone patient and organized who enjoys working with kids and has basic office or caregiving experience.

No advanced teaching degree is needed, as education or general work history can qualify you.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of general experience in clerical, office, or similar work that shows ability to learn educational support skills
  • Or 2 years (60 semester hours) of education above high school as a substitute for experience
  • Or a combination of education and experience that totals 100% of the requirement
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and teachers
  • Ability to monitor and supervise young children throughout the school day

For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: 1) Qualifying based on education alone: Education may be substituted for general experience with 2 years (60 semester hours) of education above high school.

2) Qualifying based on a combination of education and general experience: A combination of education and general experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education by 60. Add the 2 percentages.

Note: For the purpose of qualifications, 1 full year of undergraduate education is equivalent to 30 semester hours." You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications and Media Standards Teaching Others Major Duties:

  • Participates in home visits, parent teacher conferences and other meetings.
  • Ensures continuity of program in teacher’s absence.
  • Monitoring students during various phases of school day.
  • Maintains a clean and organized learning environment.
  • Preparing instructional materials related to classroom lessons
  • Assists with teaching personal care routines: feeding, toileting and personal hygiene
  • Operates Instructional equipment and technology devices.
  • Accompanying/supervising students on field trips.
  • Produce material to display educational objectives to class.
  • Apply assistive technology for recording student data.
