Full Job Description

The Education Program Consultant (Social Studies) will be an integral member of the Learner Strategies and Supports Bureau, providing technical assistance, leadership and support to school districts, Area Education Agencies, and non-public schools.


Your Responsibilities:

Participate on Department internal teams (e.g., Iowa Academic Standards, Iowa eLearning Central) to integrate statewide efforts related to effective instruction aligned to Iowa's social studies standards within a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). This work includes:

1) engaging in collaborative work with other team members;

2) participating in regular meetings;

3) attending trainings and reviewing materials;

4) participating in meetings and work with other state agencies;

5) establishing common, evidence-based information and resources related to aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessment to Iowa's social studies standards.


Support scaling and implementation of standards-aligned, evidence-based practices in social studies across the state. This includes participation in existing statewide collaborative implementation and scaling structures, including:

1) facilitation of or membership on statewide development and delivery teams;

2) helping establish and maintain a common framework for standards implementation across all content areas;

3) using implementation science to support scaling and implementation efforts.


Provide guidance, within the Department's vision and structures, related to implementation of Iowa's social studies standards, including staying current on both federal and state requirements related to social studies, and communicating with internal and external Iowa stakeholders.


Provide support of EPA Water Infrastructure for the Nation (WIIN) Grant: Lead Testing in School and Child Care Program.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Suite.
  • Experience teaching social studies and/or related fields.
  • Experience in instructional design and professional development.
  • Experience providing technical assistance and professional learning to educators.
  • Experience interpreting and implementing state or federal education law.

Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday; some nights and weekends, occasional in-state and out-of-state travel.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and five years of full-time post-graduate work experience in any one or a combination of the following areas:

a. Professional training, teaching, or counseling experience in an educational setting;b. Professional administrative experience in an educational setting;c.

Professional finance, accounting, or auditing experience, including the preparation or analysis of financial statements;d.

Professional experience in a major technical program area housed within the Iowa Department of Education;e. Professional data integration, data analysis, and statistical analysis experience;f.

Professional communications experience, including public relations, marketing, or journalism;g. Professional school safety and emergency preparedness experience.

2) A combination of a total of five years of post-graduate education and full-time experience (as described in number one), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited post-graduate college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience.

3) Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree, possession of a valid Iowa Teaching Certificate, and three academic years of teaching and/or administrative experience in PK-12 and/or a post-secondary educational institution.

4) Possession of a School Business Official Authorization from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners and seven years of full-time professional experience in finance, accounting, or auditing, including the preparation or analysis of financial statements.
