This job involves teaching and coordinating educational programs like basic skills, GED preparation, English classes, computer skills, job training, and personal development for people in prison at the Anchorage Correctional Center.
You'll also work with outside groups to bring in more resources and manage the library and computer lab.

What You Will Be Doing:
Facilitate instruction and monitor progress in Adult Basic Education, GED, ESL, computer literacy, workforce development, prerelease, and cognitive self-change programs for the incarcerated population.
Additionally, coordinate reformative programming initiatives with external vendors, contractors, community businesses, and volunteers while managing the institutional library and computer lab.

Who are we looking for:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in education, counseling, social or behavior sciences or a closely related field;ANDOne year of journey level paraprofessional experience in educational or vocational education programs or services.
This experience is equivalent to work such as the Vocational Rehabilitation Assistant 2 or Education Program Assistant, and similar classes with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent with another employer.Additional qualifying work experience may substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.Special Note:An extensive background investigation will be required for successful applicants.Working with inmates requires care in observing institution security policies and procedures and may involve personal risk.
Some positions perform activities that require bending, crouching, walking or standing for long periods of time.
Some work activities involve discomfort or unpleasantness such as moderate noise levels, vibration, dust, dirt or odors associated with operation of equipment and/or tools in performance of duties.

education programs; or an accredited U.S.
post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution.
It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN.
DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice.
Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
