Summary

This entry-level trainee position involves learning to process applications for government benefits like food assistance, Medicaid, and emergency aid, while managing a group of cases under supervision.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of full-time paid experience in direct client services, such as interviewing or evaluating data against standards, OR two years in customer service, telemarketing, retail, or clerical work
  • Substitution: College coursework can replace experience (1 year per 30 credit hours)
  • Ability to learn and adhere to complex eligibility policies for benefits
  • Proficiency in conducting client interviews and analyzing financial/social information
  • Adaptability to department software for managing caseloads
  • Valid driver's license may be required

Full Job Description

Under close supervision, perform in a training role learning the methods of processing benefit applications. Determine eligibility for, and manage, a caseload for economic assistance including, but not limited to SNAP, various Medicaid programs, Emergency Assistance/LIEAP, and School Clothing Vouchers. Learn to adapt to the use of department software to administer to a demanding caseload. Comprehend and adhere to complex policy regarding eligibility and issuance of benefits. Learn to conduct interviews with clients. Train how to analyze financial and social information. May retain repayment for economic assistance issued erroneously. Perform related work as required.

Qualifications

Training: High school diploma or the equivalent.

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience providing direct client services such as interviewing clients, customers or the public and evaluating the data against established standards and guidelines OR two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience performing customer service, telemarketing, retail or clerical work.
Substitution: Successful completion of coursework at a regionally accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience at the rate of one (1) year experience for every thirty (30) credit hours of education.

Special Requirement: A valid driver's license may be required
