Summary

This job involves working in a Pennsylvania prison to help inmates overcome drug and alcohol addiction through counseling, group sessions, and rehabilitation programs aimed at preparing them for life after release.

Key Requirements

  • One year of para-professional and one year of professional experience in drug and alcohol counseling in a social work setting, plus certification as a Certified Addictions Counselor by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board
  • Or, one year of experience as a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 (or equivalent)
  • Or, two years of professional experience in drug and alcohol counseling in a social work setting, plus a bachelor's degree with 18 credits in behavioral sciences
  • Strong understanding of rehabilitation techniques to promote cognitive and behavioral changes
  • Ability to provide individual and group counseling, including for opioid use disorder and men's recovery programs
  • Participation in treatment team meetings, training sessions, and preparation of pre-release and parole summaries
  • Full-time on-site work schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, no telework

Requirements

As a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 2, you will provide professional casework and counseling services to rehabilitating inmates struggling with substance abuse and dependency.

You will orient new inmates to Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) services, provide care and treatment, and oversee the Therapeutic Community (TC) programs and outpatient programs.

You will also conduct individual counseling to address inmate anxieties, lead the Opioid Use Disorder Track Group, and facilitate the Helping Men in Recovery Group.

This role requires thorough understanding of effective processes and techniques used in rehabilitation combined with a genuine desire to promote positive cognitive and behavioral changes that will enhance successful inmate reentry into the community.

In addition, you will participate in treatment team and multi-disciplinary team meetings, attend training sessions, and complete pre-release and parole summaries.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $63,301.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of para-professional and one year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"; or
  • One year of experience as a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 credits in the behavioral sciences; or
  • One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a master's degree with major coursework in addictions science, psychology or social work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences.


Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
